Who is behind Gathering Wool?

Hi! My name is Lisa Scandrette. For as long as I can remember, I have had a passion for making things with my hands. My sister taught me to embroider when I was nine years old. Shortly after that, my mother taught me to sew clothing. I grew up watching my aunts, mother, and grandmother hand stitch quilts. I’ve tried most fiber crafts at least once.

I’ve been knitting for nearly 30 years, and spinning yarn for 15. There is rarely a day that I don’t have wool in my hands in some way!

I have traveled the world, seeking out wool, fiber traditions, farmers, makers and teachers in Ecuador, Turkey, Shetland, the Scottish Borders, London, Australia, Wales, Norway, Denmark, Spain and Portugal, as well as at home.

I’m actively involved in my local spinning guild serving as the program coordinator and participating in spinning outreach in schools and in the community.

I’ve taught fiber crafts for twenty years or more. I’d love to share my skills with you so that you can experience the same joy, satisfaction, creativity and calm that it has brought me. Let’s gather together!
